Building a Digital Front Door for North West Queensland

Live North West and Jobs North West are regionally led digital platforms. They were developed through a partnership between the North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils and Regional Development Australia (RDA) Townsville and North West Queensland. The Queensland Government supports these platforms through the North West Queensland Economic Diversification Strategy.

Delivered in collaboration with 11 councils across North West Queensland, the initiative was created to support workforce attraction, liveability promotion and long-term regional economic development.

The project responded to increasing workforce demand linked to more than $40 billion in major projects across renewable energy, critical minerals, infrastructure and essential services. At the same time, the region faced growing challenges around attracting and retaining workers, promoting regional liveability, improving visibility of local businesses and delivering coordinated regional messaging.

To address these challenges, RDA Townsville and North West Queensland led the development of 2 complementary platforms. Live North West was designed to showcase the lifestyle, housing, education and community opportunities available across the region through local storytelling, photography and videography. Jobs North West was developed as a dedicated regional jobs platform connecting employers directly with jobseekers and improving visibility of regional career opportunities.

The initiative also established a Regional Business Directory to improve visibility of local suppliers and strengthen regional supply chain participation connected to major projects and investment activity. Shared digital assets, including regional promotional content and community stories, were also created to support councils, businesses and stakeholders into the future. The platforms were officially launched in Brisbane alongside the Deputy Premier, helping to elevate the profile of North West Queensland within broader discussions around workforce, liveability and regional development.

The project has delivered several important regional outcomes. For the first time, 11 councils across North West Queensland have worked together under a shared regional platform and coordinated messaging approach. This has helped create a stronger, more unified regional identity.

The initiative has also established long-term digital infrastructure that can continue evolving alongside the region’s workforce and economic needs. Live North West Queensland provides prospective residents with a central source of information about living in the region, while Jobs North West supports employers in reaching regional workforce markets. The Regional Business Directory strengthens opportunities for local business participation linked to major projects and investment activity.

Importantly, the initiative demonstrates how coordinated regional approaches, shared digital infrastructure and place-based promotion can support workforce attraction, industry participation and sustainable regional growth across regional Australia.
