Investing in First Nations Creative Excellent

Supporting Indigenous Creatives Through Scholarship Opportunities:

RDA Hunter provided support to the 2026 Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship, an initiative delivered by Façon Australia that celebrates, sustains and grows Indigenous art, design and storytelling across New South Wales. With a focus on supporting First Nations creatives from regional communities, the program creates meaningful opportunities for artists to develop their practice, share cultural knowledge and build sustainable creative careers.

The scholarship aligns with RDA Hunter's commitment to supporting regional development through investment in people and creative industries. By backing initiatives that strengthen the creative sector, RDA Hunter is helping to ensure regional artists can access the resources, recognition and networks needed to thrive professionally while contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of the Hunter region.

Making a Difference in the Region:

The Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship provides a platform for First Nations creatives to elevate their work, strengthen cultural storytelling and build pathways into professional creative careers. Through financial assistance, mentorship and industry exposure, the program helps artists overcome barriers often experienced by creatives living in regional areas, including limited access to professional networks, development opportunities and funding.

Beyond supporting artists, the scholarship contributes to the growth of the region's creative economy by fostering cultural leadership, encouraging community engagement and increasing the visibility of First Nations stories and perspectives. The program also creates connections between emerging creatives and established Indigenous mentors, helping to build skills, confidence and long-term career opportunities.

The scholarship has developed a strong reputation over several years for providing meaningful support to emerging Indigenous creatives. In 2026, alongside the major scholarship recipient, eight finalists received financial assistance and mentoring opportunities, extending the program's impact across a wider group of artists and storytellers. By supporting initiatives such as the Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship, RDA Hunter is helping to nurture creative talent, strengthen cultural expression and ensure Indigenous stories continue to be shared, celebrated and preserved for future generations.
