Regional change-makers share their passion projects

Friday 23 September 2022

Our Department is a long-term sponsor of the ABC Heywire program and Trailblazer initiative. For more than 24 years, we’ve supported the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) to give a voice to young people living in Australia’s regions. Since 1988, the ABC has shared more than 12,000 stories and ideas for making regional Australia a better place to live and thrive.

In June, the 2022 Trailblazers travelled to Canberra for their annual summit and a chance to pitch their ideas to Ministers, Australian Government departments and industry leaders. From this visit came another great idea - to connect the Trailblazers with more members of our national Regional Development Australia network (RDA) and create another opportunity for committee members to get to know their regional change-makers a little more.

On Wednesday 7 September 2022, more than 50 participants including RDAs, Trailblazers, ABC production crew and members of the Department’s Regional Intelligence and Local Government Branch met virtually with the 2022 Trailblazers to share their passion projects, make new connections, collaborate and explore ways to work together.

The 2023 Heywire Competition will be launched in late September 2022. For more information, visit: https://www.abc.net.au/heywire/ and https://www.abc.net.au/heywire/trailblazers/
