RDA Perth has been acknowledged in the recent annual publication of the WA Defence Review.

Head of Land Capability at the Australian Army, Major General Kate Toohey, acknowledged the RDA network as an avenue to connect industry with Defence through all levels of government. She specifically mentioned RDA Perth’s 2017 report, Security and Defence in Western Australia: An Economic Perspective, which was the first comprehensive public domain scoping study of WA Defence sector. The report provided context and strategic direction to prevailing and future opportunities for WA, across the economic, strategic, military and political levels.

RDA Hume (Victoria) is currently collaborating with the Army on a similar project.

RDA Perth’s Executive Officer, Colleen Yates, said the RDA Perth report was key to triggering a Federal Parliamentary Inquiry into Defence in WA in 2017-18. In 2018, RDA Perth released a report on developing the industrial potential around energy metals, including lithium in WA, which also has major Defence implications.

Recognition of the RDA network in this publication showcases the important leadership role RDAs play in identifying economic opportunities and leveraging investments to the regions.
