RDA Murraylands and Riverland Jobs Connection Service for displaced Thomas Foods International workers
A free Jobs Connection Service is being established to help displaced Thomas Foods International (TFI) workers find new job opportunities in the Murraylands and Riverland region of South Australia, following a devastating fire which engulfed the company's abattoir at Murray Bridge on 3 January 2018.
The new service matches local jobseekers with potential new employers who have jobs available now and in the near future, as well as providing support and training.
The Jobs Connection Service is run by Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR) with funding from the SA Department of State Development.
RDAMR will provide support to help TFI workers pursue new job opportunities including resume writing, practising job interviews, assisting with applications, and organising training.
New training to the value of $2000 per worker will be available to assist displaced TFI workers reskill for new jobs, if required.
“While Thomas Foods continues to redeploy staff to other sites, some workers may be seeking new employment opportunities,” said RDAMR Chief Executive Officer, Jo Podoliak.
“The free Jobs Connection Service will help local jobseekers find real jobs in Murray Bridge and nearby towns.
“Businesses in the region are recognising there may be workers affected by the fire who are seeking new employment opportunities. Several local employers have already approached us to help fill vacant positions.
“If you are, or know, a TFI worker and need assistance finding work, we encourage you to contact our office to discuss how we can help.”
The Community Information Centre, set up immediately after the fire to provide counselling, advice and staff information, has been relocated into the RDAMR offices.
To access the free job support services, contact RDA Murraylands and Riverland on (08) 8535 7170 or visit 137 Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge.
