Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sunshine Coast is partnering with Sunshine Coast Council, Noosa Council and Visit Sunshine Coast to support regional innovation and attract entrepreneurs to the Coast.

Sunshine Coast Council wants its new Maroochydore City Centre to be one of the most digitally advanced in the country, spending more than $10 million in underground infrastructure to ensure the latest technology is available in the new city centre.

In 2020 the international broadband submarine cable will land in Maroochydore, providing Australia’s fastest data and telecommunications connection to Asia and the second fastest telecommunications connection to the United States.

Independent modelling forecasts that this cable will generate for Queensland:

  • up to 864 new jobs;
  • up to $927 million in new investment;

Queensland businesses will be able to bypass Sydney and connect direct internationally, providing business with a range of new opportunities that come with increased speed and diversity.

The Sunshine Coast International Broadband Submarine Cable Project is aligned to the Sunshine Coast region positioning itself as Australia’s leading smart city region.

The International Broadband Submarine Cable Project will stimulate local business, generate new investment and improve telecommunications diversity to Australia’s east coast.

RDA Sunshine Coast is actively identifying and communicating the regional benefits of the international broadband submarine cable and the economic opportunities that it provides via regular news updates on its website and social media platforms.
