Inland Rail information
Inland Rail is a significant Australian Government infrastructure investment. It will complete the spine of the national freight network between Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Australia, providing supply chain benefits and substantial cost savings to freight-reliant businesses.
Both construction-related short-term and long-term operational benefits have the potential to improve regional prosperity along the route.
To help regions take advantage of Inland Rail, the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities has commissioned the Regional Australia Institute to develop a strategic planning tool, ‘Are You Ready For Inland Rail?', which will help regions identify potential areas of growth based on new opportunities.
Regions will need to engage with Inland Rail to ensure long-term benefits flow to their region too, as they will not accrue automatically or uniformly.
