Ministers responsible for regional development

Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a partnership between Australian, state and local governments to develop Australia's regions. You will find below an overview of elected representatives at the federal and state levels of government who are responsible for regional development.

Australian Government

On 3 December 2007, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP was sworn in as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

On 9 June 2009, the Hon Maxine McKew MP was sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

Australian Local Government Association

The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) is the national voice of local government, representing more than 609 councils across the country.

In structure, ALGA is a federation of state and territory local government associations. Since 2001, membership has included the Government of the Australian Capital Territory (uniquely in Australia, the ACT Government combines both state and local government functions). Regional Development Council

The Regional Development Council (RDC) is the Ministerial Council responsible for regional development issues in Australia. It comprises Federal, State and Territory Ministers responsible for regional development and a representative from the Australian Local Government Association.

The aim of the Regional Development Council is to facilitate more effective cooperation across all spheres of government in order to achieve sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes for regional Australians.
