Area Consultative Committees

Regional Development Australia

Tasmania

On 26 June 2009, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Maxine McKew MP, the Tasmanian Minister for Economic Development, the Hon Michael Aird MLC, and the President of the Local Government Association of Tasmania. This MoU supports the adoption of more integrated and aligned arrangements for regional engagement and economic development between all three levels of Government in Tasmania.

Governments have agreed that there will be one RDA Committee in Tasmania that will cover all local government boundaries.

Induction Training for RDA Tasmania

The newly appointed RDA Tasmania committee attended an Induction Seminar on 2 October 2009.  Participants met and discussed their roles in RDA with the Hon Maxine McKew MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, and the Hon Michael Aird MLC, Tasmanian Treasurer and Minister for Economic Development.  An address was also delivered by Mr John Klug, Chair of RDA Tasmania.  The participants discussed the purpose of RDA, its work program, operation and governance.

The members of the committee were most appreciative that Parliamentary Secretary McKew and the accompanying federal politicians, Senator Catryna Bilyk (Senator for Tasmania) and Ms Julie Collins MP (Member for Franklin) attended.  The presence of the Hon Michael Aird MLC was also welcomed.
